| UMass Lowell Riverhawks 2011/2012 Recruiting Information (Stats through games as of 11/04/09) |
| This will be Coach Blaise MacDonald's eleventh recruiting class at UML, and it will be the first he's had no issues to deal with in terms of trying to even out the classes. Currently we expect there to be only 5 seniors graduating during the summer of 2011: Forwards Scott Campbell, Patrick Cey and Jason DeLuca, along with defensemen Ryan Blair and Maury Edwards. Players that have signed an NLI (National Letter of Intent) will be highlighted in red. Players in this class cannot sign an NLI till November of 2010. |
UML's first commitment for 2011 might have been the earliest commitment UML has ever received. Defenseman William Eiserman of the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs (EJHL) commited in July of 2009, a full two years before he'll set foot on the Lowell campus. A native of Newburyport, Mass, the (currently) 17 year old (born 7/21/92) stands 5'11, 187 pounds. Eiserman's father played for Lowell for a year before breaking his leg, and apparently the young man has been thinking about his dad's college for a while. He told Evan Mugford of the Newburyport Daily News, "Since I was little, I always wanted to play Hockey East, I went for a tour, and they offered me that day, and I'm 100 percent for it. I always liked UMass Lowell because of my dad, but that wasn't what sold me. I just love the campus, the school, the hockey locker room; the coaches are unbelievable, and it's Hockey East." Eiserman had interest from Ivy League schools such as Princeton and Yale, but chose Lowell over them (and others). Read the full article here. During the summer of 2009, Eiserman was selected to play for Team USA on their U-18 squad at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (the U-18 Junior World Cup) that was held in the Czech Republic. It's obvious that he comes from a hockey family, as his two younger brothers (one a goalie and the other a forward) will also be highly recruited when their turn comes up. From the article, it appears that his younger brother Chris might have some interest in playing with Billy at Lowell, so we'll keep an eye out on that. November '09 Edit -- UML received a commitment from Chris Eiserman on Halloween weekend. His info is on the 2012/2013 recruiting page. Just two weeks after most likely is the earliest commitment received by Lowell, defenseman Colton Saucerman of the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) committed to UML. Saucerman (born 5/5/92) is from Colorado Springs, CO, stands 5'9", 170. He went to an open try out by the Bucs in May, and impressed enough to be invited to camp, and then made the team for the 2009/2010 season. Prior to the Bucs, Saucerman played for the Pikes Peak Miners 16AAA team, finishing with 48 points and 183 PIM. Saucerman was part of the Rocky Mountain District National Player Development Camp Selections for U-17s. He had also tried out for the Lincoln Stars, and one of their fan's sites mentioned that he was very quick and elusive skating with the puck. Lowell's recruiting continues to pick up steam, as the current #4 in the nation River Hawks (as of 11/20/09) picked up a commitment last night from RW Terrence Wallin of The Gunnery committed to UML. Born 4/6/92, the winger is 5'10, 166 pounds, and was rated as a C Level prospect by the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau in October of 2009. Vincent Montabalo of McKeen's Hockey Prospect Magazine rated him as the #12 prospect for '92s (Eastern players) during the summer of 2008. According to USHR, Wallin picked Lowell over St. Lawrence, RPI, Dartmouth, Yale, Quinnipiac, and Providence College. Wallin also was part of the Select 17 Festival in July of 2009. Gunnery's hockey season starts in December. |
