| For the Week Ending October 25, 1998,John Campbell won Hockey East Koho Player of the Week. UMass Lowell was 2-0 that week, winning their season opener at UMass Amherst and at home against RPI. Campbell had a 2 goals, 3 assists line during the two games.
During the Week Ending November 1, 1998, Anthony Cappelletti was on the Hockey East Honor Roll for his two goal effort during the weekend series swept by BC. Two weeks later, for the week ending November 15, 1998, Cappelletti was the Heaton Defensive Player of the Week. He scored the game winning goal in Lowell's win against Army. The Governor's Cup All-Tournament Teamincluded Cappelletti even though Lowell lost both games during the Thanksgiving weekend tournament, to Vermont and UNH. The weekend of December 6, 1998 brought more recognition for Campbell as he won the Hockey East Koho Player of the Week for the second time this year. He had a 2-2-4 line for the weekend sweep over Northeastern. Scott Fankhouser made the Honor Roll for the weekend, allowing just one goal in each of the two wins. Senior goaltender Scott Fankhouser was named the Tournament MVP for his role in the Silverado Shootout. Fankhouser also takes home the Heaton Defensive Player of the Week award from Hockey East. Fankhouser made 47 saves on shots 48 shots taken by the Army Cadets and the host Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, including 30 saves for his first career shutout in the Championship Game against the Bulldogs. Senior defensemen Anthony Cappelletti, Wil Tormey and junior John Campbell all made the All-Tournament Team for the weekend of January 3, 1999. Senior Defenseman Anthony Cappelletti took home his second Heaton Defensive Player of the Week award of the year due to his performance during the January 8th & 9th games. This was the third time this year that a RiverHawk has won this award, and the second week in a row. Cappelletti led a defense that allowed three goals on the weekend, while he himself scored once in each game. Both his goals proved to be game winners in the 5-2 win over St. Lawrence and 4-1 win over Clarkson. Junior forward Chris Bell made the Hockey East Honor Roll for his 2 goals on each night performance. Even though Lowell was swept on the weekend of January 22 and 23 by UNH, 3-1 and 4-1, Scott Fankhouser once again made the Hockey East Honor Roll, stopping 68 of 74 shots taken by the Wildcats. Senior defenseman Anthony Cappelletti continued to make his case to be included on on the All-Hockey East Team at the end of the year, by picking up his third Heaton Defensive Player of the Week Award. Cappelletti picked up a goal and an assist during Lowell's weekend sweep of BU and Merrimack, while helping the Hawks allow only four goals on the weekend of January 29. Junior forward John Campbell was on the Honor Roll once again, with two points in each game and a 1-3-4 line for the weekend. A new name popped up on the Hockey East Honor Roll for the weekend of February 5th & 6th as senior forward Doug Nolan made the list for the first time this year. Nolan's 1-2-3 line helped the Hawks split their weekend series with the Providence Friars, losing 5-2 at home and winning 4-2 on the road. Senior Scott Fankhouser was named the Heaton Defensive Player of the Week for his play during Valentine's Day Weekend, February 12-14th. Fankhouser helped the River Hawks beat their sister school UMass Amherst 2-1, stopping 31 of 32 shots he faced, including 16 in the third period as Lowell held on to win the game. Senior Doug Nolan made the Hockey East Honor Roll once again, for his two goal game against the Boston College Eagles in a 3-2 Lowell loss during the weekend on February 19. The two tallies brought Nolan to 7 goals on the year. Junior John Campbell was on the Hockey East Honor Roll, for his 1-1-2 performance against Maine and UNH, games Lowell lost by 5-2 and 4-2 scores respectively. Seniors Mike Mulligan and Scott Fankhouser were both listed on the Hockey East Honor Roll for their performances against Northeastern. Mulligan scored the game winner with less than three minutes left in the game, while Fankhouser made 26 saves, including 14 in the second period alone. Kevin Bertram was on the Hockey East Honor Roll even though the River Hawks season ended in a two game sweep at the hands of the BC Eagles. While he didn't have much luck in the 5-0 loss in Game 1, he contributed 2 goals and an assist in the 5-4 loss in Game 2. Included in that number was a goal and an assist as Lowell attempted to make a comeback after being down 5-2. Two Senior River Hawks were applauded for their efforts during the 1998/1999 season at the Hockey East Awards Banquet. Defenseman Anthony Cappalletti was named on the Second All-Hockey East Team, and was also the runner-up for the Best Defensive Defenseman Award. Forward Doug Nolan was named the Best Defensive Forward in Hockey East.
