| Week Ending October 13, 2002 Hockey East Honor Roll: Three UML players were recognized for their work during a season opening split at #11 Colorado College. Sophomore net minder Chris Davidson stopped 36 of 37 shots during a 4-1 long win that helped even out a 6-4 loss the previous night. Seniors Ed McGrane (2-2-4) and Geoff Schomogyi (2-2-4) also played well for Lowell. Week Ending October 20, 2002 Hockey East Honor Roll: Seniors Peter Hay (2-1-3) and McGrane (2-3-5) helped Lowell earn a pair of wins on the road, an 8-4 beating of RPI and a 4-3 win at Niagara. Week Ending October 27, 2002 Hockey East Honor Roll: Senior Stephen Slonina (1-4-5) joined McGrane (3-2-5) on the HE Honor Roll as Lowell suffered two heartbreaking losses to nationally ranked PC (6-5 in OT on the road) and #4 BC (4-3 at home). McGrane has scored in every game this season. Week Ending November 10, 2002 Hockey East Honor Roll: McGrane (2-1-3) continued his great start to the season even though Lowell was swept by UNH, 4-3 at UNH and 6-2 at home. Week Ending December 8, 2002 Hockey East Honor Roll: Seniors Mark Concannon (2-1-3) and Slonina (2-1-3), along with sophomore net minder Chris Davidson (18 shots for his first shutout) helped Lowell during their weekend sweep at home over St. Lawrence (3-2) and Clarkson (3-0). Week Ending December 29, 2002 Rookie of the Week: Andrew Martin (1-2-3) helped pace Lowell in their 5-0 drubbing of UVM in the Auld Lang Syne Tournament in Dartmouth. The rookie was also the only UML player named to the All-Tournament Team. Hockey East Honor Roll: Freshman Dominic Smart gained his first career shutout, making 17 saves in the aforementioned win. Week Ending January 5, 2003 Hockey East Honor Roll: Freshman Ben Walter received the first recognition of what is hoped to be a big time Lowell career, notching his first multi-goal games with 2 in a 3-3 tie at Brown. Week Ending January 12, 2003 Hockey East Honor Roll: Junior Defenseman Jerramie Domish notched his first two goals of the year, one each in losing causes at BC (6-3) and home versus BC (7-1). Freshman forward Bobby Robins also notched his first two goals, helping Lowell win it's first HE tilt, 6-5 at home over Merrimack. Week Ending January 19, 2003 Hockey East Honor Roll: Smart made 27 saves in Lowell's second Hockey East victory, helping to defeat Northeastern 3-2 in OT. Week Ending January 26, 2003 Rookie of the Week: For the second time this season, Martin won this honor, as he helped Lowell gain a tie at #1 ranked Maine 4-4 with a goal. He also scored the previous night in a 3-2 loss to the Black Bears. Hockey East Honor Roll: Smart and McGrane also were honored for their performances on the weekend. Smart made a career-high 29 saves to help preserve the 4-4 tie, while McGrane scored twice and added an assist in the same game. Week Ending February 9, 2003 Rookie of the Week: Forward Ben Walter assisted in Lowell's game tying goal at Merrimack and scored the winner at UMass Amherst to keep the River Hawks alive in the playoff hunt.. Hockey East Honor Roll: Concannon was named to the Honor Roll for the second time this year, with a four point weekend. He scored Lowell's only goal in a 6-1 drubbing at home by the hands of PC, and then assisted on all three goals in the 3-2 win at UMass.. Week Ending February 16, 2003 Hockey East Honor Roll: Freshman Matt Collar earned his first career points, assisting on two Lowell goals during a 5-3 loss at home to BU. Week Ending February 23, 2003 Defensive Player of the Week: For the first time this year, a UML player wins this award, as Smart made 34 saves (a career high) in a thrilling 4-4 tie versus UNH. Hockey East Honor Roll: McGrane scored the game tying goal and assisted on another as the Hawks got a desperately needed point. Week Ending March 2, 2003 Rookie of the Week: Collar wins this award for the first time, becoming the third UML rookie to do so this year. He notched the third and fourth goal (empty netter) in Lowell's 4-1 playoff clinching victory over Northeastern. These were his first two goals of the year, coming just two weeks after he had notched his first two points of the year. Hockey East Honor Roll: For the seventh time this year, McGrane made this list, as he had four points on the weekend, including the game winning goal and two assists against NU. Week Ending March 9, 2003 Hockey East Honor Roll: Senior Darryl Green made the honor roll thanks to his two goal performance in Lowell's final game of the year, a 8-4 Hockey East Quarterfinal loss at UNH. He also had an assist the previous night as Lowell lost by the same score. HOCKEY EAST SEASON ENDING AWARD: Senior Ed McGrane was a second team All-Hockey East Forward, thanks to his great year. He finished with a 21-21-42 line for the River Hawks. He was also the runner-up for the Best Defensive Forward category for the second straight year. Back to Articles |
